Every child matters
On the 25th May 2020 an autistic child strayed into a road during a curfew. Due to his autism, the child has a deficit in communication. He could not tell the police why he was on the road. He was assaulted by the police and the incident was caught on CCTV.
This incident did not receive adequate attention on both the local and international press. The Sri Lankan constitution prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, language, caste, sex, political opinion, place of birth. However, these Fundamental Rights do not include disability. Therefore, The Tree House International aggressively fights any discrimination against autism and campaigns for inclusion of disability among fundamental rights.
